Urgent Matcha Pricing Update

From the Got Matcha family to you, we want to personally thank you for being part of our matcha family and for choosing to support a product that is truly one-of-a-kind. As you know, our matcha comes from an exclusive farm in Kirishima, Japan - renowned as one of the most prestigious matcha producers in the entire country. Their commitment to soil purity, craftsmanship, and sustainability is unparalleled, and it’s what makes our matcha so vibrant, smooth and deeply nourishing.

Unfortunately neither we or our farmer are in control of the matcha industry. Prices for premium matcha are controlled by the Global Japanese Tea Administration, the trade organization which oversees the annual spring auctions immediately after the yearly harvest. Due to a combination of typhoon-related flooding which damaged the farms in Southern Japan and a global increase in demand for matcha, the bidding at this year’s auctions was frantic. As a result, the average price for a kilo of tencha leaf (the upper leaves of the tea plant from which matcha is made) has risen by an average of 70%. This is the highest price ever established for matcha. Our exporter must comply with the industry and the GJTA, so our prices here at Got Matcha increased dramatically, as have those of every other true ceremonial matcha company.

Here is a link from the GJTA which shows the price increase at the auctions:

In light of this, we want to share an honest update: in order to continue sourcing and sharing this exceptional matcha with you, we must adjust our prices.

We will continue to absorb as much of the increase as we can, because we deeply believe in keeping this level of quality accessible. We have already committed to absorbing the additional cost of any tariffs or duties for importation. But to stay in business and honor our values - purity, excellence, and sustainability - a price increase is now necessary and will be implemented across all our products effective immediately. These changes reflect an industry shift that is unlikely to change in the near future. But I’m proud to share that we have solidified our partnership with our 5th generation farmer in Kirishima and even with incessantly growing global demand, we have been guaranteed priority access to the highest ceremonial grades available.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding. We are honored and grateful for your choice to invest in truly authentic, top-tier matcha which sustains the tradition, the craft, and the integrity behind every cup.

With deepest gratitude from Got Matcha,
Rebekah Ball and the Got Matcha Family
